DO NOW thursday 3/28
Who controls the Internet? Even though the Internet has been around for as long as you have been alive, 90% of the people that control major portions of Internet and Internet filtering (safety) were born prior to the birth of the Internet.
SPAMHAUSE, a Geneva based NON-PROFIT spam filtering organization blocked CYBERBUNKER, a Dutch web hosting company.
Basically CYBERBUNKER says they have the right to host everything from public high school web-design classroom BLOGs to kiddie porn and terrorist website. SPAMHAUSE serves as a filter to keep the Internet justified and uncorrupted.
ASSIGNMENT: Does any one organization have the right to suppress the Internet? Use and site facts from the Internet to support your comments.
Thanks

Its hilarious that people are so greedy and power hungry that they fight over an virtual space that was created to share and distribute information. I find it pathetic that we as people continuously are more worried about world or would wide web . people really need to step up and start using our knowledge with some sense of morality because we have too much power and control to be constantly misusing it.
ReplyDeleteDespite the governments attempts to monitor and regulate the internet. Hackers will always find a way around no matter the situation. The government may find ways to limit or track our internet usage but technology is constantly changing which makes the attempt almost impossible. They may find a way to block things temporarily but there is no permanent solution.
ReplyDeleteNo, nobody has the right to just suppress the internet and tell people what websites they can and can't go on. Especially when "spamhause" is a non-profit organization, they aren't even getting paid to stop this. Why are they just going out of the way to block things from the internet while they're not even getting paid for it.
ReplyDeleteI think something should be done about this. I don't it's fair that the government and people that control these social media websites are int doing anything. Because once cyber bunker figures out how to fill more information its only a matter of time until the Internets ruined. Until then i doubt the internet will ever get ruined.
ReplyDeleteSpam has caused a worldwide web slowdown. In our email accounts they have a folder that is vast and overloaded with all spam and it takes up most of the mail we have in our inbox and spam folders. It is becoming a web issue worldwide. No matter how hard the government tries to stop spam and people that hack the computer just like Alex said they can figure another way in order to hack and bypass security. They may find a way to block things temporarily but there is no permanent solution.
ReplyDeleteThey should have the right to supress it if the people agree and vote on a company to do so, this will make everybody happy
ReplyDeleteI believe that SPAMHAUSE is correct in this arguement, because people tend to abuse the interent and put whatever they want on the internet, weither it affends people or not. SPAMHAUSE works as a filter to cut out all the unnecessary and affensive websites blogs and acounts and keeps the internet clean for anyones use.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion no one person or group has the right to tell people they have never met what websites they can or cannot visit. It seems like this is happening due to an ongoing
ReplyDeleteargument between the groups Cyberbunker and Spamhause. It seems unfair that due to other peoples opinions and arguments that innocent everyday civilians would have to pay for that with not being able to use the internet.
I want to live in the woods but drive a Hummer. I want to hunt my own free range chickens and fry it in my personal deep frier. Then I will dig a huge hole in the earth coat it with steel & concrete fill it with water and stay cool as the hole in the ozone melts the feet of those walking to the beach a mile from my new pool.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Spamhaus is in the wrong here. No one group has the right to suppress the rights of citizens. With that being said the idea presented to control what is put up should be enforced but through different groups collaborating on ideas.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe no organization has the right to suppress the internet. And especially tell people what websites they cant and can go on. To me Spamhause is wrong.
ReplyDeleteSomethings should be filtered out of the internet. I think that Spamhaus should have the ability to render some websites inaccessible. An example of one of these websites is one of a terrorist organization. You should not be able to follow a terrorist group on the internet.
ReplyDeleteOne organization should have the right to control the internet, but under certain circumstances. Spamhouse, for example, is an organization that keeps the internet safe and limits the access of the internet for protection. On the other hand, Cyberbunker is a company that controls everything on the web. Cyberbunker has too much power, which will cause problems on the internet. Holding an excessive amount of information, like Cyberbunker, is not good for the internet. An organization should have control, but limit what they can control.
ReplyDeletei feel that no one should be able to control what goes on the internet. i feel this way because when organizations try to control others it only causes more problems for everyone else. for example in the past when companies have tryed this it has gone on to cause many websites to be hacked into and shutdown creating more problems for the common person using the internet.
ReplyDeleteWhy not have organizations suppress the internet when it could be made safer for everybody? There are many benefits in having organizations such as Spamhause filtering the internet. Some include added safety, cooperation and keeping children from visiting websites with dangerous or inappropriate material. Unfortunately the internet is not the safest place and suppression is needed in order to keep it the safest it can be. Without the use of filters the internet can be open to anything, which can be very dangerous globally. Resulting in the need of organizations to suppress the internet.
